Magistrate Court
The Edgefield County Magistrate’s Office is dedicated to providing professional service to the public. The Magistrate’s Office has jurisdiction over many misdemeanor criminal and traffic charges, typically where the penalty is a maximum of 30 days in jail or a fine. The Magistrate’s Office also has civil jurisdiction where the amount in controversy does not exceed $7,500, and certain landlord and tenant matters. While we are prohibited from giving legal advice, we can help make sure any forms are filled out properly for filing.
Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Payments for criminal / traffic charges, and civil filings, may be made at our office by cash, credit card, money order or cashier’s check. Payments may be made through the mail by money order or cashier’s check. Online payments for traffic / criminal cases may be made by credit card. We are not capable of accepting any payment over the telephone. We always welcome exact change for cash payments.
